A plan can be mathematically complete and operationally impossible. Finite scheduling closes that gap by respecting real machine capacity, routing sequence, calendars and constraints before work reaches the line.

Start from executable constraints

Each operation needs an eligible machine set, duration or cycle standard, working calendar and relevant changeover or material constraints. Without those inputs, a schedule cannot tell whether the plan is feasible.

Let current state change the future plan

A machine breakdown, quality hold or delayed upstream operation changes available capacity. A static schedule becomes stale as soon as the plant diverges from the plan.

The scheduling loop should consume actual start, pause, completion and equipment-availability events, then surface the downstream orders most affected by the change.

Use risk, not false certainty

A finite schedule is a capacity-aware view based on the information currently available, not a promise that production will unfold exactly as simulated.

Showing at-risk orders, constrained resources and schedule assumptions is more useful than presenting one precise completion time without context.
